Transitioning to Raw

So you've decided that you want to make the switch to raw, but now what? Where do you even start? We're here to help lead you in the right direction!

If your pet has been eating a kibble or canned-based diet their entire life, it's important that you transition to raw slowly in order to avoid upset tummies. The good news here is that by transitioning slowly, you can test and see what protein sources your pet gravitates towards. One of the best ways to introduce raw to your pet's diet is by feeding raw formulas as treats.

Although some people find that they can transition to raw the same way they would transition between kibbles (gradually mix the new food in with the old food until you are feeding only the new food), a great way to introduce raw into your pet's diet is to feed raw formulas as treats. There are two ways you can go about this - you can feed small portions of balanced raw meals in place of treats, or you can feed treats meant for only supplemental feeding.

If you wanted to introduce the actual raw formula that you plan to feed in the future, a great place to start would be to see what brands offer freeze dried, bite sized options. This is the least messy way to go about this. Some brands that offer their diets in this form are Stella and Chewy's and Nature's Variety, who each have freeze dried, bite-sized meal mixers. Instead of feeding as a meal, you could use the individual pieces as treats. (I have personally used Stella and Chewy's meal mixers as training treats for my puppy, and I've had great results!)
